Running Y Resort Hosts Two-Day Annular Solar Eclipse Celebration
October 13, 2023 - October 14, 2023
Running Y Resort — Southern Oregon’s’ premier destination resort, spa, and golf course — is welcoming guests for a special two-day event “Eclipse Into Nature” celebrating the annular solar eclipse taking place October 14th, 2023.
Directly under the path of the eclipse, Klamath Falls will offer spectators an incredible view of the rare celestial phenomenon, Running Y Resort will complement that with specialized educational presentations and festivities on October 13th and 14th.
October 13th, the evening before the eclipse, Running Y Resort will host a “Star Party” at Juniper Hall which includes dinner and a paneled presentation led by Jim Todd, the Director of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), and Dr. Nate Bickford of the Oregon Institute of Technology. The two will be joined by a Tribal representative from the Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin tribes who will speak to the cultural relevance lunar activity has had over the many years from an Indigenous perspective.
“Klamath Falls’ location along the path of the annular solar eclipse makes it an incredible spot to fully appreciate the wonder of the phenomenon,” says OMSI’s Jim Todd. “We’re excited to be able to educate and share our knowledge with guests this October.”
“An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon covers the Sun’s center, leaving the Sun’s visible outer edges to form a “ring of fire” or annulus around the Moon. We are really quite lucky to be able to witness this awe-inspiring event firsthand” says Dr. Nate Bickford.
The Star Party will also feature telescopes for stargazing, while the presenters will be broadcasting their telescope findings live via projector screen. The evening will wrap up with a celebratory Star Party concert experience with live music and bites at Running Y Resort’s Ruddy Duck restaurant.
October 14th, the day of the eclipse, the gates will open at 6am. Leading up to the eclipse there will be live music by Michael Quinn and the Cherry Wine Duo and a breakfast buffet featuring eclipse themed food and drinks along with exciting games to get the day rolling. Presenters will speak on what to expect for the eclipse before it gets underway, but when the maximum eclipse begins at 9:19 am PDT they’ll step back and allow the audience to take it all in on their own. During the final moments of the celestial event, guests can enjoy live music by Marty Combs and the High Desert Boys and conclude with headliner The Brothers Reed.
The Running Y Resort team will also be providing special-purpose safe solar filter glasses so guests can safely view the eclipse. An optometrist will also be on-site to educate and bring awareness to eye safety during the event.
