Klamath geology program

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – An overview of geology in the Upper Klamath Basin will be discussed in a program at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Klamath County Museum.

“Klamath Falls: A Tectono-magmatic Gray Zone in Cascadia” will be presented by Kaleb Scarberry of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries.

“Dr. Scarberry’s presentation will touch on the basics of the different ways some of the mountains and valleys around Klamath Falls were formed,” said museum director Todd Kepple. “From the standpoint of geology, the Upper Klamath Basin is a complex and fascinating place to study.”

 Scarberry will also lead a field trip on Saturday, Oct. 19, to examine formations at two sites. Call the museum at 541-882-1000 for details on the field trip. Space is limited.

Scarberry holds a doctorate in geology from Oregon State University. He published 12 geologic maps and several field guides over the past decade while working for the state of Montana. He has worked for the state of Oregon since July of this year.

He is based in Corvallis, where he serves as courtesy faculty for OSU, and plans to work on field-based geologic mapping with students.
