KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – The Klamath Falls Falcons (4-16; 10-27) dropped three of four to the Roseburg Doc Stewarts (14-6; 23-16-1) in the final series of the regular season. The losses eliminated the Falcons from postseason contention and secured a spot in the state tournament for Roseburg.
GAME 1 (SATURDAY): ROSEBURG 9, KLAMATH FALLS 2
The Docs rallied to defeat the Falcons thanks in part to a six-run fourth inning.
Roseburg drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning when Cal Robbins tripled to score a run. Brooks Avery added an RBI single in the third inning before the Docs piled on in the fourth. Tauj Flora, Brevin Harrison, and Avery each smashed extra-base hits.
The Falcons scattered four hits and two runs in the fourth and seventh innings as Corbin Hamilton and Ryan Douglas picked up RBI.
Drew Camp got the win for the Docs allowing four hits and two runs over 6.2 innings of work. He also struck out 11 batters. Dylan DeJong took the loss for Klamath Falls giving up eight runs in 3.1 innings.
Marcos Ulloa-Ford, Mark Carpenter, Hamilton, and Douglas each had one hit for the Falcons in the loss. For Roseburg, Harrison, Avery, and Flora had two hits each combining for six RBI and 11 total bases.
GAME 2 (SATURDAY): KLAMATH FALLS 2, ROSEBURG 1
Kollin Tacchini turned in a stellar start as the Falcons used great pitching and defense to split the road half of the season series.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning. Jacoby Tacchini hit an RBI single which scored Kollin Tacchini, then the Docs responded with an RBI single from Brooks Avery. The game remained tied until Kollin singled, followed by a Docs error allowing Corbin Hamilton to score.
Kollin pitched 6.0 innings giving up three hits, one run and two strikeouts. Max Price earned the save striking out two batters in the seventh inning. Cam Hartsell picked up the loss for Roseburg, hurling 5.0 innings allowing five hits and five walks with four strikeouts.
The Falcons totaled seven hits in the win with Kollin and P.J. Safford picking up two hits each. Roseburg was only able to get three hits with two credited to Avery and Paxton Burke hitting a triple which was the only extra-base hit for either team.
GAME 3 (MONDAY): ROSEBURG 5, KLAMATH FALLS 4 (9 INNINGS)
The Falcons battled until the bitter end in an extra innings loss to the Docs. Cal Robbins doubled in the top of the ninth to push Roseburg in front by a run to secure the win.
Klamath Falls used a three-run sixth inning to force extras. Trailing by three runs heading into the frame, Jacoby Tacchini wrapped a single to left field which scored Marcos Ulloa-Ford and Mark Carpenter. Later, Ryan Douglas singled to drive in Tacchini.
Tristan Ledbetter earned the win in relief, working 3.1 innings giving up only one hit. Max Price was handed a loss in relief only giving up one run in 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. Carpenter got the start for the Falcons and gave up seven hits and four runs across 6.0 innings without a decision.
Carpenter led the Falcons on offense going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored including a solo home-run in the fourth inning. Price, Tacchini, P.J. Safford, Carson Siems, and Douglas all had singles in the game. Roseburg collected 12 hits in the contest with Paxton Burke, Avery, and Robbins having two hits each. Robbins doubled twice to knock in four runs.
GAME 4 (MONDAY): ROSEBURG 8, KLAMATH FALLS 2
A four-run first inning and a 4-4 game from Dan Withers lifted the Docs past the Falcons.
Roseburg plated four runs in the opening frame after Cal Robbins singled scoring a run, then an error with the bases loaded allowed three more runs to score. The Falcons scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but it was not enough to pick up the win at Kiger Stadium.
Colton Siewell picked up the win pitching 5.0 innings allowing four hits and a run. He struck out five batters. Marcos Ulloa-Ford earned the loss giving up four earned runs across 4.0 innings.
Carson Pimely went 3-3 in a season best game. Kollin Tacchini, Ulloa-Ford, and P.J. Safford all had singles in the loss. Roseburg amassed 13 hits in the game as Withers went 4-4 with two runs scored. Cal Robbins, Ty Hellenthal, and Logan Anderson turned in multi hit performances.
WHAT’S NEXT?
These losses eliminated the Falcons from the AAA Oregon State Playoffs in Eugene. The season is over for the Falcons.
The State Playoffs kick off on Friday with the play-in games, followed by the double-elimination tournament from Saturday through Wednesday at Swede Johnson Stadium. Here is a quick look at the schedule for the first two days of the event:
