The Modoc County Sheriff’s K-9 Association Fundraiser Dinner and Auction

The Modoc County Sheriff’s K-9 Association will hold its annual Fundraiser, Dinner and Auction on May 4, 2024
at the Tulelake Fire Hall in Tulelake, CA. Any support that you can provide, through gift certificates,
donated items, or a donation check will be greatly appreciated.

The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office is a very small department located in northeast California, bordering
Nevada to the east and Oregon to the north. Geographically, we are the tenth largest county in California
with a population of less than 10,000 people. The Sheriff’s Office patrol division has a total of seven
deputies and one sergeant. They handle patrol duties, coroner cases, animal control, civil matters, and
search and rescue.

Our K-9 program has been in place for ten years and, with no county (taxpayer) funding, is fully
dependent on community and charitable support. The program has continuously evolved with the
financial support of the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Association. We can now maintain three K-9
teams, two of which are assigned to the most rural parts of our county, as well as a new search and
rescue K-9 team.

The K-9 police dogs provide additional protection for our deputies where, in such a rural county, law
enforcement resources are stretched thin. Our K-9 teams do numerous public service demonstrations
each year, assist our allied agencies, and have proven effective in minimizing drugs coming into our
communities. The recent addition of the search-and-rescue bloodhound tracking dog is sure to be
effective on our next rescue incident.

Our generous community support comes through fund-raising events and donations to the K-9
Association. The K-9 Association regularly covers the many costs associated with the maintenance and
care of the dogs, such as food, shelter, training certifications, supplies, and equipment for vehicles to
keep the dogs safe, both at home and while on patrol with their partner.
