Prep Baseball: Henley and Lost River Extend Winning Streaks; Other Weekend Results

Friday (4/18/25)

Lost River 18, Crosspoint Christian 4 (Game 1)

The Raiders blasted 13 hits in a mercy-rule victory over Crosspoint Christian to open a Friday doubleheader.

The game was scoreless after the first inning, but in the bottom of the second, Lost River used a two-out error to score 10 unearned runs. The Raiders then tacked on eight more in the third.

Doug Jenkins went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI, while Drew McDonald added a 3-4 performance, a double, and three RBI. Noah O’Neil had three RBI on a bases-clearing triple in the second inning. For the Warriors, Nate Gibson, Wyatt Moyles, and Isaac Root each had singles.

Kyle Diaz got the win on the hill for Lost River, going 3.0 innings, allowing three hits and a run while striking out six batters. Nathan Bowman was the losing pitcher for Crosspoint as he went 1.2 innings, allowing five hits and 10 runs (none earned) while striking out two hitters.

Lost River 17, Crosspoint Christian 2 (Game 2)

Crosspoint Christian threw the first punch in the first inning, but the Raiders rallied in the second inning to extend their winning streak to six games. Lost River capitalized on seven Warrior errors to score seven unearned runs in the game.

Drew McDonald pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out nine batters. Kody Sparks suffered the loss for Crosspoint going 1.0 inning, allowing five hits and seven runs.

Offensively, Doug Jenkins went 2-3 with two RBI and a double. Connor Guthrie added two hits for the Raiders. Chase Knecht, Wyatt Moyles, and Isaac Root all had singles for Crosspoint, while Nate Gibson wrapped a double and finished 1-3.

Lost River will hope to continue it’s winning ways on April 22nd against Glendale, while the Warriors look to right the ship against Days Creek.

Saturday (4/19/25)

Henley 4, Phoenix 2 (Game 1)

Henley scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull ahead of the Pirates and hang on for victory.

A pitchers dual saw both starters work deep into the game. Henley’s Beau Pyle pitched 6.2 innings allowing seven hits and fanning six batters. His counterpart from Phoenix, Chris Phillips, pitched a complete game despite the loss allowing four runs (two earned) and one strikeout.

Offensively, Connor Shively, Mark Carpenter and Corbin Hamilton each had two hits, while Pyle added an RBI double. For Phoenix, Luke Jennings had two hits while Phillips, Caden Cunningham and Caden Darcy each added one.

Henley 10, Phoenix 5 (Game 2)

A late rally added insurance for the Hornets as they extended their winning streak to eight games.

The teams traded blows in the early going as a 6-3 Henley lead held until the sixth inning, when the Hornets added four runs when Mark Carpenter drove in a pair on a single, and two more runs scored on passed balls and wild pitches.

Carpenter got the start on the mound for Henley and went 6.0 innings allowing six hits, four runs, and punching out 11 hitters. Sam Shilts got the nod for the Pirates and worked 5.0 innings allowing six hits and six runs (three earned) while striking out four batters.

Connor Shively turned in a 3-3 ballgame with three RBI while Carpenter is also credited with three RBI. Derrick Cox, Ryan Douglas, and Jacoby Tacchini added one hit each. For Phoenix, Kaden Sousa was 2-4 with two RBI, and Shilts was 2-4.

The Hornets will defend the current winning streak on April 23rd against Klamath Union, while Phoenix faces Mazama.

Hidden Valley/New Hope Christian 14, Klamath Union 1

The Mustangs plated four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as they rode an early start to a 13 run victory.

The Pels were only able to muster two hits against Logan Law as he pitched 4.0 innings allowing a run and striking out 10 hitters. Maruk Morris was the losing pitcher for Klamath Union going 4.0 innings allowing six runs (four earned) and punching out two hitters.

Hunter Gillette was the catalyst for the Mustangs going 4-4 with three RBI. For Klamath Union, only PJ Safford and Ryan Glidden recorded hits.

Hidden Valley/New Hope Christian 19, Klamath Union 0

Hidden Valley mashed 18 hits in the game, and scored 11 runs in the first inning to inflict a mercy rule loss on the Pelicans.

Tildon Coffman got the loss for Klamath Union going 0.1 inning allowing 10 runs and five hits. Jack Matthew got the win for the Mustangs going 3.0 innings and allowing three hits while striking out five hitters.

At the plate, Coffman, Donovan Jones, Ryan Glidden, Reese Johnson, Griffin Johnson, and Luis Meza-Bravo all had singles. Jack Matthew was 4-5 for Hidden Valley and added five RBI.

It won’t get easier for Klamath Union, as they face Henley on April 2rd while Hidden Valley takes a break from the Skyline Conference to play Scappoose on April 26th.

Mazama 7, Modoc (CA) 5

The Vikings rallied for five runs in the third inning to claim the lead, and held on to defeat the Braves in an interstate matchup.

A Devyn Lobdell triple helped get the integral third inning started as the Vikings then capitalized on a series of past balls, wild pitches, and errors to get ahead. Jonathan Ladner also added a triple going 1-1 at the plate. Jayden Justice, Max Rogers, and Kellen Lee all added hits in the win. For Modoc, Adin Benson and Trustin Thomas were 2-2 with a double.

Lee got the win on the mound for Mazama going 3.0 innings allowing four hits and three runs while punching out five batters. Andres Lopez got the loss going 2.1 innings allowing five hits and six runs while striking out four hitters.

Mazama resumes the league schedule against Phoenix on April 23rd, while Modoc gets back to the Shasta Cascade League when they meet Weed on April 25th.
