KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used an 8-run first inning in Game 1 and got a walk-off RBI single from Jayce Seavert in Game 2, as the No. 2-ranked Lady Owls swept a doubleheader from British Columbia at Stilwell Stadium.
OIT (28-6, 14-4 CCC) claimed a run-rule, 9-1 decision in the opener, with Tech earning a 5-4 victory in the non-conference finale.
The Lady Owls put Game 1 away early – as Cook, Zoe Allen and Seavert opened the first inning with singles. Puakea Milbourne and Marla Goodspeed each followed with a 2-run singles, Addison Kachnik and Malia Mick ripped run-scoring singles, with Allen closing out the frame with a 2-run single.
Cook would extend the lead to 9-0 with a third inning RBI double, with Marin Jorgenson breaking up a Kacie Schmidt shutout bid with a fourth inning RBI single – but the T-Birds (13-12, 8-8) could not muster any additional offense.
Allen was 2-for-3 and Cook was a perfect 3-for-3 in the win for the Owls, with Brielle Donoghue recording two hits for UBC.
Game 2 was much more competitive, as Shae Sever lifted a first inning sacrifice fly to give the T-Birds an early lead. Tech answered in the second, as Goodspeed doubled in a run, with the go-ahead run scoring on a UBC error.
After a Sever single drew the visitors even in the third, Allen gave OIT the lead in the fifth with an RBI ground out and Seavert followed with an RBI single. The lead would not last, as Kennedy Ainge launched a one-out pinch-hit 2-run homer in the seventh to tie the game.
Enter the top of the OIT line-up, as Cook doubled with one out in the bottom of the inning, Allen reached on an infield single and Seavert ended the game with an RBI single to left.
Cook, Allen and Seavert each had two hits for Tech, as Alli Parker earned the win in relief of Jenna Gorden, who tossed six-plus innings of 6-hit ball.
The Owls close out their homestand on Tuesday, hosting Simpson in a non-conference doubleheader.
