Lady Owls Use Great Shooting to Get Weekend Wins

Oregon Tech 95, Warner Pacific 58

PORTLAND, Ore. – Freshman Brooke Anderson scored a career-high 14 points, helping Oregon Tech run their road win streak to 7-in-a-row, a wire-to-wire 94-58 victory over Warner Pacific inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium.

The Lady Owls (11-3, 7-1 CCC) ran their overall win streak to five, converting 54% of their field goals on the night, while finishing with a dominant 45-29 edge on the glass.

Anderson scored 8-straght points in a second quarter 12-1 run, capped by a Tatum Schmerbach lay-up, giving Tech a 31-13 lead. OIT would close the quarter on a 13-2 run – as Anderson hit a jumper to start the flurry, with 3-pointers from Maddyson Tull and Alexis Elquist giving the visitors a 50-24 lead at the half.

Jozie Ramos took over in the third quarter scoring six of her 13 points in the period, extending the margin to 72-41 – with the Owls allowing all 15 players on their active roster to see game action.

Schmerbach scored 12 points with six rebounds and Tull came off the bench to add nine points and six boards.

The Knights (6-9, 3-6) got 14 points from McKeeley Tonkin and 12 points from forward Alexa Mee, but turned the ball over 21 times, which the Lady Owls turned into 33 points.

Oregon Tech 97, Multnomah 58

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech recorded their most prolific shooting night in 44 years, as the Lady Owls won their eighth-straight road game, cruising to a 97-58 win at Multnomah.

OIT (12-3, 8-1 CCC) converted 65% of their field goals in the win, the highest field goal percentage since the program was reinstated in 2002. Only the 1981-82 team had a better effort, making 65.8% of their shots in a win at then Western Baptist.

“We knew that if we were patient on the offensive end we could get great looks,” said head coach Joy Lease. “Our posts did an outstanding job distributing the ball and we converted open shots.”

Tech used a 12-0 run in the first quarter to take command, getting consecutive baskets from Maddyson Tull and a pair of buckets from Gabbie Gascon in the surge. Leading 27-19 in the second quarter, the Owls rattled off 13-straight points, getting a pair of baskets from both Alexis Elquist and Brooke Anderson, with a Tatum Schmerbach lay-up extending the margin to 40-19. OIT finished the half making 23-of-32 field goals.

Leading 52-33 at the break, the Lady Owls scored the first 11 points of the second half and added a 20-6 run in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 40.

Five players scored in double-figures, led by 15 points from Gascon. Both Jozie Ramos and Elquist scored 12, Anderson had 11, with Tull recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tech held a 42-24 edge in rebounds and forced 20 turnovers

Ellie Robertson led the Lions (5-11, 3-7) with 15 points, with both Jersey Huerta and Makayla Torkornoo scoring 14.

The Lady Owls return home to start a 4-game homestand, starting Friday morning, hosting Walla Walla at 11 a.m. – the second-annual K-12 Field Trip Game.
