See the video for Coldplay’s ‘The Karate Kid’ starring Ralph Macchio

Coldplay recently premiered the music video for their new song ‘The Karate Kid’ starring Ralph Macchio – the titular ‘Karate Kid’ from the original 80s film of the same name.

‘The Karate Kid’ track is taken from the expanded ‘Full Moon Edition’ of Coldplay’s No. 1 album ‘Moon Music,’ and features The 1975’s Matty Healy on keyboards.   A limited edition red 7-inch featuring ‘The Karate Kid’ alongside Coldplay’s hit single, ‘All My Love’, is also available to order on recycled vinyl.

The touching video for the song was filmed in Melbourne during Coldplay’s recent sold-out Australian tour and directed by Chris Candy. It stars Macchio, 63, as a down-on-his-luck street busker who suddenly has a change in fortunes when a random passer-by offers him tickets to Coldplay’s concert. Once at the show, Macchio holds up a sign and he’s invited on stage to perform ‘The Karate Kid’ with Coldplay. The live performance segment was filmed at Coldplay’s 31st October concert at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.

Macchio said of the video: “When Chris Martin pops up on your FaceTime asking you to help create a video to accompany what I found to be a beautifully emotional and poignant song – one inspired by a film I made over 40 years ago – there was only one answer. Having the opportunity to join Coldplay in Australia at one of their legendary live shows to collaborate on this music video was nothing short of a career highlight. The synergy with Chris, the band and our director Chris Candy was as pure as any I’ve experienced. I’m excited to share this with the world.”
