GLENDALE, Ariz. – Jozie Ramos hit a go-ahead jumper with seven seconds remaining, lifting Oregon Tech to a 50-47 victory over No. 15-ranked Arizona Christian at the ACU Events Center.
The Lady Owls (4-2) won for the fourth-straight time, holding the previously unbeaten Firestorm to 29-percent shooting and a 1-for-17 clip from 3-point range.
Tech survived a woeful second half, combining to score just 17 points – seeing a 10-point advantage evaporate. However, the Lady Owls made plays down the stretch to earn the win.
Gabbie Gascon forced a turnover and found Kendall Fealey for the tying basket with just over a minute to play and following a defensive stop, worked the ball to Ramos, who converted her only field goal of the day to give OIT the lead.
The Firestorm (5-1) had two final chances – but stellar defense by the Owls forced Alyssa Alvarez to dribble out-of-bounds with four seconds to go. After Gascon split two free throws at the other end, ACU got a desperation from Laura Gunn that barely grazed the front iron as the final horn sounded.
OIT used a 12-3 run spanning the first two quarters to take a 26-16 lead – including five points from Fealey. The lead was 41-33 late in the third quarter, before ACU rattled off 10-straight points over a 7-minute stretch to regain the lead – setting up the finish.
Fealey tied career-highs with 11 points and five steals, with Kennedy Tull scoring 10 points with six rebounds. Tatum Schmerbach led Tech with 11 boards, as the Lady Owls won despite converting 31-percent of their field goals and committing 21 turnovers.
Emily Till scored 11 points with nine rebounds in the loss for the Firestorm, who committed 20 turnovers.
Tech has 13 days to prepare for their Cascade Conference opener, Dec. 6, at Eastern Oregon.
