CORVALLIS, Ore. –Everett Hayes kicked a season-long 55-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining to send Oregon State to a 41-38 win over No. 25 Washington State Saturday night at Reser Stadium.
Hayes’ field goal was fitting, coming on the Beavers’ annual senior day. It was his second make of the game, his first a then-season-long 46 yards in the third quarter.
The game-winning drive came after Jaden Robinson recovered a fumble at the Washington State 49 that was forced by Exodus Ayers. The Beavers moved just 12 yards on the drive, but it was enough to put Hayes into position for the game-winner.
Trent Walker had a season-high 12 catches going for 136 yards while Ben Gulbranson was 22-of-34 passing for a career-high 294 yards. He also rushed for a 1-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
The Beavers took a 17-14 lead into the half thanks to a late scoring drive that lasted just 44 seconds and ended with 13 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter. Gulbranson found Walker for 31, then Taz Reddicks for 24 yards before scoring a couple plays later on a 1-yard quarterback keeper.
Gabarri Johnson and Salahadin Allah also rushed for touchdowns in the first half.
Gulbranson found Jermaine Terry II for a 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter, the longest catch of the tight end’s career. Darrius Clemons caught his first career touchdown on a 4-yard pass with 2:45 remaining in the fourth quarter.
