CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two fourth quarter touchdowns by visiting San José State were too much for Oregon State as the Beavers fell by a 24-13 score on Saturday afternoon.

Holding onto a 13-10 lead after Everett Hayes’ 34-yard field goal to open the second half, the visiting Spartans held Oregon State off the scoreboard for the rest of the game on the way to the result. The visitors even kept the Beavers scoreless on three trips to the redzone, including twice in the second half.

Following a stalled drive halfway through the fourth, the Beavers showed promise despite down 11 late. Ben Gulbranson had led the team down the field from their own 25-yard line but his pass on second-and-goal was picked off by the Spartans at the one. San José State then ran out the game’s final 1:34 to seal the win.

Both sides a trip to the endzone a field goal for their first half scores. Anthony Hankerson – the Beavers’ leading rusher (121 yards on 30 carries) – found the endzone and Hayes connected on a 45-yard field goal. Despite 292 yards on 24 completions through the air from Gulbranson, the Beavers totaled 106 yards from 10 penalties to hold them back.

In the third quarter, Sailasa Vadrwale III snagged his first career interception off SJSU’s Walker Eget, which stopped a consuming drive by the Spartans. Skyler Thomas led the defense in both total tackles (6) as well as solo stops (4).

Oregon State will return to action next week on the road against Air Force. The contest is set for 12:30 p.m. PT and can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
