Ruch, Ore—July 9, 2024–The Sulphur Fire started at approximately 7:00 pm yesterday evening on the ridge just south of Beaver Sulphur Campground on the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District. A USFS fire engine first identified the fire and air tankers were diverted from the Upper Applegate fire to drop water on the new incident. Ground firefighters quickly responded, getting handline and hose around the fire, which is two acres in size. After an evening’s work on initial attack, crews bedded down early this morning and started their morning shift on the Sulphur Fire at 7:00 a.m.
Resources currently assigned to the fire include a 20-person crew, one engine and one water tender. The Sulphur Fire is under investigation. The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is planning a reconnaissance flight to locate any additional starts across the forest as soon as possible.
We ask the public to keep an eye out for suspicious activities and report anything of this nature to the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District (541) 899-3800. Please be careful with everything you do due to the extremely dry conditions, including parking in dry grass.
