KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – The Klamath Falls Falcons (1-7; 7-18) were swept by the Redmond SunWest Generals (4-6; 17-6) in their four-game season series. The series’ first two games were played on July 3rd in Redmond, with the back half played at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls on July 8th.
GAME 1: REDMOND 11, KLAMATH FALLS 1
Redmond starter Griffin Sanchez flummoxed Falcons batters all afternoon on his way to a complete game victory in game one. Sanchez allowed just four hits in 6.0 innings pitched and fanned eight batters.
Caden Illingworth opened the scoring for Redmond with an RBI single in the first. The Generals added to their lead with two more runs in the second inning, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and ended the game with four more in the sixth. Redmond totaled 14 hits in the game led by Eli Pupo and Illingworth getting three knocks each. Illingworth and Austin Dean each had three RBI in the contest.
Max Price and Jacoby Tacchini each had two hits in the contest, but that would prove to be all the offense the Falcons could muster. Mark Carpenter was credited with the loss on the mound working 4.2 innings giving up eight hits, seven runs, walking four, and striking out five.
GAME 2: REDMOND 9, KLAMATH FALLS 0
Brady Kennedy hurled a complete game shutout and struck out eight batters en route to another win for the Generals.
The Generals were held to just one run until the third inning when they scored three runs and added five more in the fourth. Logan Macy, who also plays for Oregon Tech in the spring, paced the offense for Redmond collecting three RBI and scoring two runs. Tyis Yustat added three hits and an RBI along with Pupo who notched three hits and scored three runs.
The Falcons had four hits in the contest with Max Price and Carson Siems getting one each, and Carpenter adding two more.
Corbin Hamilton earned the loss for the Falcons pitching 3.2 innings and giving up six hits, nine runs, five walks, and four strikeouts. Dylan DeJong came in relief to shutout the Generals across the final 2.1 innings.
GAME 3: REDMOND 5, KLAMATH FALLS 1
This contest marked the first home game for the Falcons in 11 days, and they kept it close through four innings before Redmond separated themselves in the fifth inning.
Logan Macy doubled in a run to start the offense for the Generals in the first inning. Colton Horner hit an RBI single in the fifth to expand the lead followed by a Yustat double which added two more runs.
Dylan DeJong got the start after his solid effort in relief in Redmond. DeJong pitched 4.2 innings allowing seven hits and four runs in his longest outing of the season. His counterpart Ryker Altizer finished a complete game giving up six hits and striking out six batters. Altizer is committed to join the Oregon Tech Owls in the fall.
Kollin Tacchini finished 2-3 at the plate and knocked in the lone run for the Falcons in the sixth inning on a single. Connor Shively, Jacoby Tacchini, P.J. Safford, and DeJong each had hits for the Falcons.
GAME 4: REDMOND 16, KLAMATH FALLS 2
The Generals got the lead in the first inning and never looked back as they boat raced the Falcons to a series sweep.
Logan Macy reached on an error to score a run in the first inning and Redmond would add three more in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and eight in the seventh. The Generals totaled 14 hits as Horner, Illingworth, and Brody Fischer had three hits each. Buck Cooley amassed six RBI in the win with key hits in the fourth and seventh innings.
Offensively for the Falcons, Safford and Marcos Ulloa-Ford had one RBI each. Safford, Ulloa-Ford, Kollin and Jacoby Tacchini, Carson Pimley, and Ryan Glidden had one hit each.
Ulloa-Ford was credited with the loss in 2.2 innings of work he allowed three hits, four runs, and six walks. Chase Knecht and Safford combined for the final 4.1 innings giving up 11 hits and 12 runs. Only eight of the Redmond runs were earned as the Falcons committed four errors in the contest, and totaled 11 across the four game series.
Sanchez again got the ball for Redmond and picked up where he left off in the series opener, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just three hits.
WHAT’S NEXT?
The Falcons will try and shake off a series sweep as this lengthened the Falcons losing streak to six consecutive games, and 10 of their last 11. They can turn the page with a visit to the Grants Pass Nuggets (1-7; 4-19) on Wednesday at Agnew Lytle Field at the All Sports Park. Then on Friday the Falcons return home to host the Nuggets. Each date is a doubleheader with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
