Shelly Fire prompts cancellation of Scott Valley Bluegrass Festival

ETNA, Calif. — With the Shelly Fire having grown to more than 4,200 acres in size and still 0% contained, organizers have made the decision to cancel the Scott Valley Bluegrass Festival, which was set to take place in Etna July 19-21.

This year was set to mark the return of the festival after a decade-long absence.

The Shelly Fire began July 3 near Shelly Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail in the Marble Mountain Wilderness, which is part of the Klamath National Forest. The U.S. Forest Service said steep, rugged terrain throughout the area has made the fire difficult to access, hindering suppression efforts.
