SCOFMP: Harriman Fire 50% contained

Klamath Falls, Ore, – This will be the final update on the Harriman Fire. The Harriman Fire is now 50% contained, remaining at an estimated 10-15 acres, with multiple resources on scene from the U.S. Forest Service, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, Rocky Point Fire and EMS, and private contractors. Crews will focus on securing control lines and mopup throughout the day. Additionally, infrared detection flights will be conducted by Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) operators to ensure all remaining sources of heat are identified.
David Lilly, District Fire Management Officer for the Klamath Ranger District, said “I want to thank the Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, adjoining and neighboring districts, Rocky Point Fire and the Oregon State Fire Marshals.” Resources provided for the fire include 9 engines, 3 handcrews, 2 water tenders and 1 dozer, as well as multiple aviation resources. Multiple resources will be on scene for the next several days to patrol.
While the cause of the Harriman Fire is currently under investigation, many wildfires are caused by human activity. The public is reminded that it is their responsibility to know what fire restrictions are in effect before using public lands, including dispersed camping, recreation, and cutting firewood. On National Forest lands, campfires are generally allowed when dispersed camping UNLESS there are fire restrictions in effect due to high fire danger conditions.
