Falcons Come From Behind to Best Nuggets 9-4

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – The Klamath Falls Falcons (5-3) trailed the Grants Pass Nuggets (0-10) by as many as three runs but earned a 9-4 victory at Kiger Stadium on Thursday night.

The Nuggets scored first in the second inning when Ben Morgan singled in a run followed by an RBI groundout from Ty Ireland. Grants Pass extended their lead to 3-0 when Dane Kissel singled to score another run.

The Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom of the third with Ryan Glidden scoring on an error, and Connor Shively knocking in a run in the same at-bat. Grants Pass added a single run in the fourth, but the Falcons woke up the bats in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Mark Carpenter and Marcos Ulloa-Ford had RBI singles and runs scored in the inning. Klamath Falls added two more runs in the sixth when Grants Pass committed two errors on the same play to score Carson Siems and Max Price

P.J. Safford earned the win in relief for the Falcons, working 1.1 middle innings without allowing a baserunner. Max Price started on the bump pitching 3.0 innings allowing five hits, three runs, and striking out four. Chase Knecht, Mark Carpenter, and Marcos Ulloa-Ford combined for 3.2 innings, one run, one hit, and four strikeouts. Alijah Zauher started for Grants Pass and earned a loss in 4.1 innings of work allowing seven hits, six runs, and two walks.

Offensively, Marcos Ulloa-Ford led the charge for Klamath Falls going 3-4 with and RBI and two runs scored. P.J. Safford went 2-4. Max Price, Connor Shively, Mark Carpenter, and Kollin Tacchini each had one hit in the win, with Lane Frank adding an RBI on a groundout.

The Falcons continue their homestand this weekend when they host Gunderson Baseball for a double-header at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Then on Sunday, there are three games at Kiger Stadium as the Falcons meet the Hillsdale Merchants at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Merchants challenging Gunderson, with the nightcap featuring a rematch of Saturday’s twin bill. The Falcons begin Area-4 league play against the Eugene Challengers on June 26th.
