Falcons Rout Medford in Home Opener

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – The Klamath Falls Falcons (1-1) made the hometown crowd happy after defeating the Medford Mustangs (2-1) on Thursday night 9-3.

Medford struck first in the top half of the first inning when Kellen Willer shoved a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to score Freeman Roundtree. After that run, the Mustangs offense went quiet for six innings as Klamath Falls built their lead.

The Falcons responded with a run in the first when a double-steal plated Ryan Douglas. The Falcons added one more run in the second and third innings. Mark Carpenter singled in the fourth inning to score Ryan Glidden and Marcos Ulloa-Ford. In the sixth inning, the Falcons would see their final runs of the game when Ulloa-Ford tripled in two runs and scored on a wild pitch. Medford scored two runs in the seventh in their final push, but it wasn’t enough.

Marcos Ulloa-Ford picked up his first win of the season on the mound working 3.0 innings allowing just one hit and one run. Kollin Tacchini also saw significant time, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing two hits while striking out four batters. Dylan DeJong and Max Price combined for the final three innings. For Medford, Jake Lewis was the losing pitcher after throwing for 3.0 innings allowing four hits and three runs.

Mark Carpenter and Connor Shively collected three hits in the win. Carpenter also added two RBIs. Other notables for Klamath Falls include Ulloa-Ford who went 1-4 with a triple and two RBI, and Corbin Hamilton who went 1-4 with an RBI. Ryan Douglas, Ryan Glidden, and Max Price got one hit each. Nobody got more than one hit all night for Medford. The Mustangs were also unable to collect an extra-base hit. Freeman Roundtree, Tristan Mallari, Jimmy Morgan, Dominic Daffron, Davis Carr, Evan Rhoden, and Grady Sickler all got hits.

This marks the first win of the 2024 season for the Falcons, and their first win against Medford since June 20th, 2023. It snaps a five-game skid against the Mustangs.

Up next for Medford is a date with Grants Pass on Friday night. The Falcons have a week off before facing Grants Pass on Thursday, June 13th.
