Henley Softball: Hornets get three-inning run-rule win over Klamath Union

Henley’s (8-3, 3-0) Skyline Conference opener lasted three innings and just over one hour as they run-ruled Klamath Union (5-5, 0-3) 15-0.

The Hornets batted around in the first inning and scored eight runs, including six with two outs. Anna Harper hit a towering home run to centerfield (her first of the season) to score the final three.

Annie Campos led off the second inning with a home run (her second in three games) that landed in almost the same spot as Harper’s did. Henley later lined into a double play but managed to score two more runs before the third out.

The Hornets’ only out of the third inning was a sacrifice fly by Jillian Vickery to drive in the game-ending run.

Anna Harper and Belle Birch were both 3-for-3 with 3 RBI; Natalie Hudson was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI; Annie Campos was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI; Gracie White was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI; and Jillian Vickery and Suzy Nichols were both 1-for-2 with 1 RBI. Campos also started in the circle for Henley, holding the Pelicans hitless with 5 strikeouts.

Klamath Union also struggled in the field; six of Henley’s runs were unearned.

The Hornets and Pelicans return to Henley for a rematch at 5 p.m. Thursday.
