El Palacio Owners Lose in Federal Court

Klamath Falls. ORE– It took four years to get their day in court and a jury trial that lasted five days and heard from witnesses on both sides yielded a decision in favor of the city of Klamath Falls in the case of the civil trial of Cisneros v Klamath Falls.

The owners of downtown Mexican restaurant El Palacio lost on Friday after suing the city of Klamath Falls and former police chief Dave Henlsee for 11.75 million dollars.

The restaurant owners alleged that former police chief Dave Henlsee targeted the one-time hopping night spot based on their race while Henslee said it had nothing to do with race and everything to do with the unsavory nature of the clientele that patronized the restaurant and nightclub that at one time hosted weekend dancing, partying and filled the streets of Klamath Falls with revelers.

The owners agreed to change security personnel and close early to try and comply with Henslee’s demands and they say that violated their civil rights.

A jury on Friday in Federal court in Medford disagreed and rejected the claims brought by the former restaurant owners.
