Bonanza, ORE – It was a packed house at Bonanza High School on Tuesday night as fans from two small schools filed in to watch the Antlers take on the Raiders. Here is how it happened…
Bonanza Lady Antlers 58 – 30 Lost River Lady Raiders
The first quarter was a close battle and after the first eight minutes, the Antlers led 9-8. As the second quarter began Bonanza senior Julie Hess caught fire. She dribbled around a defender to score. On the next trip up the floor, Hess spun left at the free-throw line and scored again. Once more Hess had the ball and hit a fadeaway bank shot. She then stole the ball and scored again in transition. Hess scored eight straight points to begin the second quarter and the ball kept rolling for Bonanza to the tune of a 14-0 run in the second. Lost River did not score their first points of the period until Kassidy Vaughan hit a layup 58 seconds before halftime and the teams went to the locker rooms with the Antlers in front 30-14.
In the second half, the Raiders could never close the gap. Bonanza kept Lost River at arm’s length and closed out the game with a 58-30 in front of the home crowd.
Bonanza’s Hess led all scorers with 24 points on the night including three triples in the second half. Also for the Antlers Ellie Huffman scored 12, Mary Schooler added eight, Grace Kness had three, and Abby Hill scored two. Lost River was led by Kassidy Vaughan with 11 points, Morgan Herring scored six, Amaris Hernandez added four, Macey Thompson scored three and Madison Holster had two points.
Lost River Raiders 61 – 44 Bonanza Antlers
The Raiders began this game like they were shot out of a cannon. Lost River controlled the opening tip and Connor Dunlea quickly raced up the floor to score the first two points of the game. Lost River continued the dominance early and opened a 10-0 lead with 5:48 to go in the first. After a timeout, Bonanza started their road back into the game with a Victor Gonzalez triple. The first quarter closed with Lost River ahead 17-16. The Raiders closed the first half on a 9-1 run that saw the score 31-20 at halftime.
The second half is where the Raiders separated themselves. The Antlers put Lost River in the bonus early in the fourth quarter as starters Victor Gonzalez, Andrew Rojas, and Alexander Renzetti each accrued four personals. Renzetti would eventually foul out after the game was in hand for the Raiders.
Lost River was led in scoring by the duo of Connor Dunlea and Chase McAuliffe each contributing 17 points. Kayden Hartman added seven points while Emmet O’Brien and Juan Navarro each scored six. Beau Sanders added five points from the bench. Victor Gonzalez led the way for the Antlers with 18 points on five made triples. Renzetti scored 11, Fystin Qualls and Andrew Rogas added four points. Issac Noble scored three and Lorentino Weiser notched two points in the loss.
