Bonanza, Ore – The Antlers scored first on Friday night and never once relinquished the lead, as they defeated the Bobcats 68-27.
Even though the Antlers held a 16-point lead at halftime, it was in the second half where Bonanza stepped on the gas and put the game away. The Antlers opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run, and would eventually outscore Myrtle Point 40-15 in the second half, including forcing the Bobcats into a goose egg in the fourth quarter.
“I was excited to get the young kids out there in the second half,” said sixth-year head coach Campbell Kness. “Tonight they looked comfortable for the first time and that was probably the high point for me.”
Bonanza created opportunities for transition buckets all night long led by Victor Gonzales with 18 points and Alex Renzetti who added 11 for the Antlers.
“We’ve been stressing getting out in transition for a while,” said Kness. “With the new shot clock, we want to stress moving the ball up the floor.”
With the win, Bonanza improved to 3-1 on the season, meanwhile, Myrtle Point sits at 1-3.
