Corvallis, Ore – The Beavers lost a heartbreaker in front of their home crowd on Saturday when they fell to the Huskies 22-20.
The teams traded touchdowns in the opening frame, eventually giving Oregon State the football with a chance to take an early lead. The Beavs offense stalled and they were forced to punt, but disaster struck when a high snap caused a fumble, and eventaully a safety gave UW a 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Washington led the Beavers 22-10 at halftime, but the Oregon State defense blanked the Huskies in the second half. The Beavs had a chance late to take a lead, bringing the ball downfield 42 yards in 11 plays, but eventually turning the ball over on downs with 2:08 to go in the game.
Oregon State quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei turned in a less-than-stellar performance with 164 yards on 15-of-31 passing. Uiagalelei also tossed two picks with no touchdowns. Damien Martinez earned the spotlight again rumbling for 123 yards on 26 carries and two scores.
The Beavers tumbled to #15 in the latest AP Poll, and the CFP Poll will be released on Tuesday.
Oregon State closes the season on Friday night when they challenge #6 Oregon.
