VALLEJO, Calif. – Oregon Tech set a school record by scoring 77-or-more points for the fifth-straight game to open a season, converting 52-percent of their field goal attempts in a dominating 78-46 victory at Cal Maritime.
The Lady Owls (5-0) will take an unblemished record into their Cascade Conference opener – welcoming nationally-ranked Eastern Oregon to the Basin on Dec. 1.
Tech never trailed on the night, forcing 24 turnovers – as Gabbie Gascon recorded seven steals and Olivia Sprague added six – with the Owls turning the miscues into 26 points.
All 12 players in uniform scored in the victory – as Sprague scored 16 points and Tatum Schmerbach had a career-high 15.
OIT used a 13-0 run early in the second quarter to turn a 20-14 lead into a 33-14 edge – as Sprague recorded three steals and nine points in the flurry.
The visitors did not allow a made field goal over the first seven minutes of the third quarter – as the 14-2 run extended the Lady Owls lead to 55-24 – with Schmerbach scoring six points in the run.
The Keelhaulers (0-2) struggled offensively, making 29-percent of their field goals, with Tech holding a 45-28 rebound edge.
Though OIT has never had an offensive explosion to start a season as they have in 2023-24, the 2013-14 squad holds the record for consecutive games 77-or-more points scored – posting eight-straight games from November 23-to-December 17.
Jenna Wallace scored eight points off the bench, Kennedy Tull tallied seven, with Alexis Elquist posting six points and eight rebounds. Gascon recorded a team-high six assists.
Anika Carey led CMA with 13 points.
