Basin Football Recap

Here’s your one-stop shop for all of this week’s Basin football scores. This page will be updated as scores and stats come in throughout the weekend.

Henley 35, Hidden Valley 0

The rain didn’t let up for most of the evening, and neither did Henley’s (5-0, 2-0) defense.

Hidden Valley (1-4, 1-2) was only able to get inside the Henley 40-yard line on their final possession of the game as the Hornets put the running clock on by halftime thanks to a rushing touchdown from quarterback Joe Janney followed by four more from running back Logan Whitlock.

Henley took full advantage of the running clock; the Hornets got the ball to start the second half and stretched their ensuing drive over the entire third quarter.

Defensively, Mark Carpenter recorded his fifth interception of the season.

Henley travels to Klamath Union (1-4, 0-3) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Mazama 57, Ashland 26

Triston Leach scored a 64-yard rushing touchdown on the second play of the second quarter to put Mazama (4-1, 2-0) up 28-0 and the Vikings coasted from there.

Ashland (3-2, 1-2) quarterback Jojo Harrower put up just under 300 yards of offense by himself while throwing three touchdown passes, but it wasn’t enough to overcome another dominant night for the Mazama ground game, which saw three players rush for more than 100 yards.

Kristopher Baldwin led the Vikings with 163 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Quarterback Tyson Van Gastel had 108 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, and Bodie Norlock rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Leach finished with 73 yards and two touchdowns on three carries.

Mazama travels to Hidden Valley (1-4, 1-2) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Lakeview 14, North Valley 10

Despite being held to their lowest scoring output of the season, Lakeview (5-0) got points when they needed them, retaking the lead on a fourth quarter touchdown to snap North Valley’s (3-2) three-game winning streak and improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2010.

The Honkers travel to Coquille for the third of four straight road games at 1 p.m. next Saturday.

Crosspoint Christian 44, Bonanza 32

Crosspoint Christian’s (3-1, 2-0) Chase Bacus rushed for 269 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries as the Warriors beat Bonanza (2-3, 1-1) for the first time in school history on a rain-soaked homecoming night.

Crosspoint Christian also got great performances from quarterback Kody Sparks, who completed 8-of-12 passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns, and linebacker Chris Kelly, who had a game-high 16 tackles and 1½ sacks.

“The kids handled the adversity with the weather really well,” Crosspoint Christian head coach Jim Johnston said. “I’ve never in my 16 years of coaching had it rain like that in Klamath Falls.”

The Antlers trailed 44-20 before scoring touchdowns on their final two possessions late in the fourth quarter. Bonanza running back Tristan McGann rushed for 226 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while quarterback Colby Medeiros completed 5-of-17 passes for 67 yards and three touchdowns.

The Warriors held the Antlers to 5-of-13 on third down conversions and 2-of-7 on fourth down conversions.

“We played much better defensively, tackled better and were more fundamentally sound,” Johnston said.

Crosspoint Christian hosts Camas Valley (2-2, 0-2) at 6 p.m. next Friday. Bonanza hosts Myrtle Point (4-1, 1-1) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Lost River 48, Myrtle Point 28

For the second week in a row, Lost River (5-0, 2-0) shut down a high-powered offense in a tough road environment.

Myrtle Point’s (4-1, 1-1) previous season low was 52 points, but the Bobcats were held scoreless in the fourth quarter as the Raiders blew open a 32-28 game.

“Great job by our offensive line, tight ends and lead backs,” Lost River head coach Dennis Dunlea said. “Their blocking helped us control the game and eventually close it out.”

The teams took contrasting offensive approaches; Lost River ran the ball 65 times for 386 yards and attempted just two passes while Myrtle Point amassed 263 yards through the air.

Connor Dunlea led the Raiders with 179 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries. Kayden Hartman ran for 145 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries, and quarterback Chase McAuliffe put up 62 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.

Lost River has a bye next week before traveling to Chiloquin at 7 p.m. Oct. 12.

Tulelake 58, Plumas Charter 0

Tulelake (6-0) shut out Plumas Charter (0-5) for the second time this season, scoring 44 points in the first quarter.

Five different players scored rushing touchdowns for the Honkers, who amassed 325 yards on the ground while averaging almost 11 yards per carry. Danny Garcia led the team with 178 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries.

Isaiah Perez had an excellent two-way game for Tulelake, recording a receiving touchdown, a rushing touchdown, a sack and a blocked punt. Adrian Garcia led the Honkers defense with seven tackles, including three sacks.

Tulelake is now 6-0 for the first time since 2019 and has already surpassed last season’s win total. The Honkers have recorded four shutouts and outscored their opponents 278-20.

Tulelake returns home for a Week 2 rematch with Chester (3-2) at 6 p.m. next Friday.
