EUGENE, Ore. – Beau Pyle tossed a complete game 3-hit shutout, helping Klamath Falls stun Area 4 leading Eugene, 3-0, in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Swede Johnson Stadium.
The Emerald Overhead Door Challengers (33-3, 5-1) rebounded with a pair of doubles and four RBI from Jaxson Kister in a 17-7, 5-inning win.
Pyle retired the first 10 batters in order and did not allow a Eugene runner to third until the seventh inning. He walked two and fanned one in his first win of the season.
The Falcons (6-16, 3-7) scored all three runs in the fifth, as P.J. Safford walked with one out, advancing to third following a 2-base throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Jaden Backer. Following a walk to Aiden Hayes, Brody Hubble walked with the bases loaded to give Klamath the lead. Mark Carpenter capped the frame with a 2-run single.
Both teams finished the game with three hits.
KFalls took an early 1-0 lead in Game 2 as Hayes doubled and scored on a Tyler Harper ground out. However, eight walks and four hit by pitches by three Falcons pitchers allowed the Challengers to plate 15 runs over the first three innings – eventually winning the game due to the mercy rule.
Hayes had four hits and an RBI and Hubble had two hits in the loss for the Falcons, who close out a 15-game road trip on Thursday at Grants Pass.
