KLAMATH FALLS – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Danielle De Castro has been selected to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America NAIA Track & Field/Cross Country first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
De Castro, one of 12 student-athletes selected to the women’s first team, posted a 4.0 GPA in Mechanical Engineering and she was one of four women on the first team to have a perfect GPA. Altogether, the 12 first team members averaged a 3.97 grade point average.
Danielle had herself an outstanding year representing Oregon Tech athletics. In cross-country, individually she was third in conference championships, and a member of the conference championship team. At nationals, De Castro placed 12th individually, and was a part of OIT’s first National Championship Cross Country team.
She was Indoor Track & Field National Runner up in the 1,000m, and lead off leg on the nationally fifth place for the Distance Medley Relay. In Outdoor track and field, De Castro was recognized as an All-American (taking third place in the 1,500m), was a team captain and part of the Oregon Tech Athletic Department Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
