Marion, Ind. – Sarah Abramson had 10-strike-outs and freshman Maddie Deverna delivered a 2-run double to lead No. 10 Oregon Tech (41-15) past Siena Heights (35-15) 4-1 Monday in the Marion Bracket of the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round at Wildcat Field.
The win moves the Owls, the #1 seed in the tournament, into the winner’s bracket and a match-up against the host and #2 seeded Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday at 8:00 am (Pacific). The Oregon Tech vs Indiana Wesleyan winner will need to win just one of two games in Wednesday’s championship round of the double-elimination tournament for the title and the berth into the NAIA Softball World Series.
The Saints broke-up a scoreless game in the top of the 4thwith an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Owls answered right back scoring three times in the bottom of the frame highlighted by the Deverna 2-RBI double and a Baylee Wyscaver RBI ground out.
Dre Sotelo slammed her 15th homer of the season out to left field to give OIT a 4-1 lead and Abramson did the rest as she improved to 23-5 on the year.
Head Coach Greg Steart on today’s game, “”Sarah pitched really well today striking out 10, and giving up only two hard hit balls along with 3 or 4 bloop hits. We did not hit our best but put some timely at bats together in the 4th inning highlighted by Maddie’s big two run double.”
