ASHLAND, Ore. – No.10 Oregon Tech (40-15) fell 8-2 to No.4 Southern Oregon (45-7) on Sunday in the CCC Tournament Championship game as the Raiders claim the 2019 Cascade Conference Softball Championships presented by U.S. Bank, capturing its third consecutive title.
The Owls earned the right to play SOU after its 3-2 win over College of Idaho to start the day. With the win over the Yotes, OIT clinched the Cascade Conference’s second automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round; the Owls will find out Tuesday where they will play May 13 – 15.
The Raiders took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Taylor Walker double. The Owls tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning on a Cierra Barkis RBI single.
Back came SOU with two-runs on three-hits in the top of the second to take a 3- 1 lead.
The Owls trimmed the lead back to 3-2 on a Dre Sotelo RBI single in the third.
The Raiders then added one run in the 4th, another in the 5th and three runs in the top of the seventh to seal the 8-2 win.
Gabby Sandoval earned her 30th win on the year to improve to 30-3 while Ali Graham picked up the loss in the circle for the Owls, slipping to 13-7 on the year.
Senior Kiahna Brown led OIT with three-hits with Sotelo adding two-hits in the loss for the Owls.
Allie Stines had three-hits to lead SOU with Hannah Shimek, Tiana Brown, Paige Leeper, Hannah Wessel, and Olivia Macky adding two-hits each in the win.
