LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Oregon Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams have been named the “Under Armour Teams of the Week” for September 3-9, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced on Sunday evening.
The No. 4-ranked OIT women—picked to finish first in the CCC women’s cross country preseason coaches’ poll—and the No. 10-ranked men’s squad—selected fourth on the men’s side—each claimed team titles at the Humboldt Invite in Trinidad, Calif. on Saturday.
Each team landed five runners in the top-10 of their respective races, with the Lady Owls finishing with a total time of 1:52.29 in the 6K, and the OIT men completing the 8K with a total team mark of 2:13.18. It was each program’s first-ever team triumph in the respective events.
For the women, Cindi Reed (21:53) and the reigning CCC Red Lion Runner of the Week, Susie Garza (22:08), led the way. Reed and Garza claimed 2nd and 3rd place finishes individually to propel the Owls.
Oregon Tech’s men’s team was paced by its two top-five finishers, Paul Wyatt (26:15, 3rdoverall) and Nicholas McMillen (26:23, 5th overall). McMillen is also coming off CCC Red Lion Runner of the Week honors.
The No. 4-ranked Lady Owls have now claimed team wins in each of the squad’s first-two races of the 2018 season, with the triumph marking the first of the season for the OIT men. Both teams will aim to build off their success as they look ahead to their next meet, the Willamette Invite on September 29 in Salem, Ore.
